Physical Education Objectives:
The goal for MSMS Physical Education is to instill an appreciation for an ACTIVE HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. This program will provide students the opportunity to fulfill the following objectives.
Covid-19 information:
Due to Covid-19, Physical Education will have significant modifications to promote safety within each activity.
Entrance & Exit to the gymnasium are designated for cohorts to ensure social distancing. Students will sanitize their hands upon entering the gymnasium.
Equipment will be sanitized after each class
Students will NOT have access to the PE change rooms and must be properly dressed and ready for activity, with appropriate Physical Education attire on PE days; please dress according to the weather conditions.
Masks MUST be worn in situations where 6 feet of distance cannot be attained.
Class cohorts will remain separate at all times, both indoors and outdoors. A curtain will be used to keep cohorts divided in the gymnasium. Outside activity is encouraged and will be used as much as possible, weather permitting.
Student Expectations:
Assessment and Evaluation- Based on the Physical Education curriculum outcomes.
Assessment tools: teacher daily evaluations, self evaluations, peer evaluations, fitness testing, skill assessment and possibly written tests/quizzes.
* The Daily Evaluation is based on the student’s participation, attitude, effort, appropriate P.E. clothing/footwear, safety, emotional control, leadership, fair play, respect and acceptance.
4 Point Scale for Daily Evaluation
4- In-depth knowledge and understanding of content and concepts, excellent participation, demonstrates positive attitude and effort, listens to instructions, encourages and supports others, shows leadership and cooperation.
3+ Competent has met the requirements of a level 3, but has some requirements of a level 4.
3 - Competent knowledge and understanding of content and concepts, good participation, effort and attitude meet acceptable standards, cooperative and respectful to others, generally on task.
2+ Developing has met the requirements of a level 2, but has some requirements of a level 3.
2- Developing knowledge and understanding of content and concepts, minimal participation, lack of attentional and emotional control, effort and attitude do not meet acceptable standards, inappropriate behavior, poor etiquette and disrupting the learning of others.
1+ Limited+ has met the requirements of a level 1, but has some requirements of a level 2.
1 Limited knowledge and understanding of the content and concepts. Limited application of related skills, negative attitude, participation and effort do not meet acceptable standards, disrespectful to the teacher and peers. Negative effect on the learning of others.
Student Medical Excuses:
If a student is well enough to be at school, they should be well enough and are expected to participate in all class activities to the best of their ability.
In the event, a student cannot participate in class, due to injury, a written note or email prior to class must be provided. Texts on cell phones will not be accepted.
Parents/ Guardian are asked to communicate the extent of injury and any restrictive measures recommended by doctor or physiotherapist.
If a student has a major injury (broken bone, surgery, etc.) please provide a medical timeline for your child’s return to participation. During this time, students will be assigned an alternative assignment to meet outcomes.

- Be Prepared for class- wear a mask, appropriate “Physical Education” clothing and footwear. No jeans, boots, flip flops, tank tops or belly shirts. Your PE clothing should fit you properly and be appropriate for Physical Education class.

- Participate to the best of your ability every class; TRY YOUR BEST!
- Be Respectful to Self, Others, Learning Environment and our Equipment.

- No Cell phones/electronics, food, gum or bags are permitted in the gym during class. Leave all belongings in the classroom. Water bottles only!
